Feng Shui Front Door

The front door is the "mouth of qi" in Feng Shui. Treat it as a threshold worth tending.

Classical Feng Shui calls the front door the mouth of qi — the place where energy enters the home. In modern terms, treat it as the threshold that frames every arrival and departure. It is worth tending.

What a "good" front door does

  • Opens fully (nothing blocks it from swinging open at least 90°).
  • Is well-lit, even at night.
  • Welcomes you back without smelling like the inside of a closet.
  • Is uncluttered immediately on the inside — no shoe pile, no parcels stacked against it.

Five micro-fixes

  1. Replace a dim porch bulb with warm, broad light.
  2. Oil the hinges so the door swings cleanly. Friction is the enemy.
  3. Add one plant — alive, healthy, in scale.
  4. Designate one spot for keys; never on the floor.
  5. Keep the doormat clean. It is the very first surface you touch each day.

These are aesthetic and behavioural cues, not financial or health advice. Feng Shui at the door simply makes the moment of arriving home a little kinder.
